During Lee’s 2022 Failed Run For Governor, He Penned An Op-Ed Promising To Pursue “The Most Pro-Life Agenda In Nevada’s History”
OP-ED: Nevada Needs A Governor To Fight For Commonsense Values, Starting With Defense Of Life
- Lee Prayed For Roe V. Wade To Be Overturned And Called Abortion An “Atrocity.” According to John Lee’s op-ed in the Reno Gazette Journal, “I’m a former (and recovering) Democrat who lost a primary because I wouldn’t compromise my values — including protecting life. As a father and grandfather of a beautiful family, I know every life matters — and every life deserves a chance. This year, our nation has a historic opportunity to end the atrocity of abortion. On Dec. 1, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health case, a case I pray will overturn Roe v. Wade and deliver a historic victory for our nation, the unborn and the global pro-life movement.” [Reno Gazette Journal, John Lee Op-Ed, 12/15/21]
- Lee: “I’ve Committed To Pursuing The Most Pro-Life Agenda In Nevada’s History.” According to John Lee’s op-ed in the Reno Gazette Journal, “As a candidate for governor, I’ve committed to pursuing the most pro-life agenda in Nevada’s history, including ensuring parental notification is protected and opposing taxpayer-funded abortion. We will ensure that Nevada never becomes a sanctuary state for abortions, as California has pledged to do. I refused to back down to pro-abortion Democrats — and that’s why I was proud to receive an A rating from Nevada Right to Life for my stance. I’ve lost political races because I wouldn’t compromise my pro-life values — but I never lost my integrity, because some things cannot be compromised.” [Reno Gazette Journal, John Lee Op-Ed, 12/15/21]
- Lee Touted That He Received An “A” Rating From Nevada Right To Life. According to John Lee’s op-ed in the Reno Gazette Journal, “As a candidate for governor, I’ve committed to pursuing the most pro-life agenda in Nevada’s history, including ensuring parental notification is protected and opposing taxpayer-funded abortion. We will ensure that Nevada never becomes a sanctuary state for abortions, as California has pledged to do. I refused to back down to pro-abortion Democrats — and that’s why I was proud to receive an A rating from Nevada Right to Life for my stance. during lee's 2022 failed run for governor, he advocated for a six-week abortion ban
While Running For Governor In 2022, Lee Advocated For The Passage Of A “Heartbeat Bill.” According to a post from Riley Snyder of the Nevada Independent, “In press release, GOP #nvgov candidate & NLV Mayor @MayorJohnLee says he would be the ‘most compassionate pro-life Governor’ in NV history, would sign/support: parental notification for minors seeking abortions, Seek a 'heartbeat' bill & end to ‘pain-capable’ abortions.” [Twitter, Riley Snyder, 11/16/21]
- “Heartbeat” Bills Amount To A Near-Total Ban On Abortion As They Ban Abortion Often Before Women Know They Are Pregnant. According to Vox, "Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp in early May signed into law a so-called ‘heartbeat’ bill, banning abortion as early as six weeks into pregnancy. Georgia is the fourth state to pass such a law this year alone. The bills prohibit abortion once a fetal heartbeat can be detected. But reproductive rights advocates and doctors say the laws, which prohibit abortion before many women know they are pregnant, amount to a near-total ban on the procedure." [Vox, 4/19/19]
