Reproductive Rights

NH-02 candidate Vikram Mansharamani supported the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, which he called “inappropriate legislation from the bench” and he supported putting limits on abortion access. In 2022, he suggested there could be a federal role in abortion policy, but refused to say what abortion legislation specifically he would support or oppose. Recently, he dismissed the idea that abortion policy is an important federal issue, saying, “there's no need to talk about an abortion ban. I don't think anyone's talking about that at the federal level.” He said this even though 125 House Republicans have co-sponsored the Life at Conception Act, a nationwide abortion ban.

Vikram Mansharamani Can't Be Trusted To Protect Reproductive Rights

6/24/22: Mansharamani Referred To Roe V. Wade As “Inappropriate Legislation From The Bench.” According to a post on Vikram Mansharamani’s campaign Twitter account, "‘The Supreme Court should not be creating laws. That was never the founders’ intent. Today’s decision to overturn Roe is a correction to inappropriate legislation from the bench. Abortion laws are now rightfully in the hands of our legislators.’ —Vikram" [Twitter, Vikram4NH, 6/24/22]

2022: mansharamani supported putting limits on abortion access

May 2022: Mansharamani Agreed With Limiting Abortion Access. According to WMUR, “Candidate Vikram Mansharamani said he agrees with limiting some abortions. ‘Most Americans, most Granite Staters, really are opposed to the idea of late-term or partial-birth abortions — so I'm talking about third trimester — and if we're going to be banning third trimester, I would be OK with that,’ he said.” [WMUR, 5/9/22]

june 2022: mansharamani suggested there could be A role for congress related to abortion policy

June 2022: Mansharamani Said There Could Be A Role For Federal Representatives Regarding Abortion Policy. According to an interview Vikram Mansharamani gave on WTPL, “MANSHARAMANI: Switching gears a little bit, you asked whether or not this is a federal issue. I think what the Supreme Court said was pretty clear. It is going back to the people and their representatives. That can be a national representative, i.e. a federal representative, or a state representative. These laws can be done at either level. It is, I think, more appropriate to be done at the state level, let it be closer to the people. But it is not inconceivable that the federal delegation is asked to take care of some issues relating to this.” [WTPL, 6/28/22] (audio)

June 2022: Mansharamani Did Not Verbally Commit To Opposing Federal Abortion Legislation. According to the Associated Press, "Donald Bolduc, Bruce Fenton, Vikram Mansharamani, Chuck Morse, and Kevin Smith were asked Monday night to respond to the US Supreme Court decision ending constitutional protection for abortion and whether they would support federal laws restricting it. While all praised the decision, Fenton, a bitcoin businessman, was the only candidate who clearly said he would oppose federal abortion legislation. The others indicated their opposition only by not raising their hands when a moderator pressed them to take a position." [Associated Press, 6/28/22]

Mansharamani Dismissed The Idea That Abortion Policy Was An Important Issue At The Federal Level

Mansharamani: “So, First Of All, There's No Need To Talk About An Abortion Ban. I Don't Think Anyone's Talking About That At The Federal Level.” According to a Good Morning New Hampshire NH-02 Republican Primary debate, "HOST: Let's go back to the abortion rights doctor Vikram Mansharamani. You know it's a state issue. Do you support New Hampshire's current law? MANSHARAMANI: I do. HOST: And if you are the nominee and your opponent says you favor an abortion ban nationally, do you? Yes. So, first of all, there's no need to talk about an abortion ban. I don't think anyone's talking about that at the federal level. President Trump said he wouldn’t… HOST: Oh, they're going to be talking about it. MANSHARAMANI: Well, I understand they will. But the truth is, it's not. It's a scare tactic, etc.. I do support the New Hampshire law. I think New Hampshire's figured out a law that works for the citizens here, and that's what is intended by the law. So I'm good with that." 2022: mansharamani refused to say what abortion LEGISLATION he would support or oppose

July 2022: Mansharamani Deflected Questions Regarding Specifics On What Abortion Legislation He Would Support Or Opposed And Said “I Will Of Course Consider Anything.” According to WMUR, “HOST: This is an issue of many people and many women see as one of an individual right they have had for a long time, now it is not necessarily there. Having a patch work on something like that, so many people saw it as a civil right, is that appropriate when you look at something like the 14th amendment? Guarantees equal protection under the law. Is it appropriate to have this patchwork on an issue like that? MANSHARAMANI: You know, Adam, I think it is a very complicated issue. There is a lot of nuance and a lot of people that care really deeply about this issue. That is the reason I think has to be dealt with closest to these individuals. There are people who have-- I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all policy in the sense that states are closer to the individuals that can happily make those decisions with the input of those closest to them. That is where I am right now. Legislation that gets put in front of me, if I get to look at details, I will of course consider anything.” [WMUR, 7/31/22] (video) 00:02:03

mansharamani claimed republicans were not out-of-touch with americans on abortion

May 2022: Mansharamani Claimed Republicans Were More Aligned With Voters On Abortion Than “Extremist” Democrats. According to a clip posted on WMUR’s Twitter account, “MANSHARAMANI: When you get to the substance of the issue of potentially overturning Roe v. Wade I think it’s really important to think about what the Democrats have said here which is they are OK with abortion right through nine months. I am not. I am absolutely opposed to a third trimester abortion. I don’t think that’s OK. So I think if we really wanna contextualize who is extreme here let’s focus on the Democrats as extremists.” [Twitter, WMUR9, 5/10/22] (video)
