Missouri Senate President Pro Tempore Dave Schatz Said That “If The Leaked Roe V. Wade Decision Is Accurate, Missouri Will Be One of The First States To End Abortion.” According to a statement tweeted by Dave Schatz “if the leaked Roe V. Wade decision is accurate, Missouri will be one of the first states to end abortions. In 1019, as leader of the Missouri State Senate, our republican ajority worked toigether to pass the strongest pro-life law in the country, which included a trigger in the case of the Supreme Court overturning Roe V. Wade. The implications of the Heartbeat Bill could soon become a reality in Missouri, which wpuld be a majpr victory in the pursuit of protecting innocent life in our state and nation/ Unti we have the final decision, we pray that our justices are not preassured by thopse who seek to undermine our democratic process.” [Twitter, @DaveSchatzMO, 5/3/22]
Dave Schatz “Shepherded” The Abortion Ban Which Went Into Effect When Roe V Wade Was Overturned. According to Missouri Independent, “Dave Schatz hopes his achievements speak for themselves. He sponsored the first gas tax increase since the early ‘90s that will infuse about $1.8 billion toward Missouri’s crumbling highways and roads and helped shepherd the passage of Missouri’s trigger law banning nearly all abortions. Even if Missourians may not know his name, they’ve likely felt the impacts of the policies he’s worked to pass. It’s a record Schatz hopes will propel him to the front of the pack in a crowded 21-candidate Republican primary vying for retiring U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt’s seat.” [Missouri Independent, 7/18/22]
Dave Schatz Said He Opposed Codifying Roe V. Wade Which Would Supersede Missouri Abortion Ban. According to Missouri Independent, “Schatz said he would be opposed to the federal government codifying Roe v. Wade into law to supersede states’ abortion restrictions. In Missouri, nearly all abortions are now illegal and there no exceptions for rape or incest. Schatz said those limitations don’t need to be revisited. ‘Every life is precious, regardless of how, and where it began,’ Schatz said, later adding: ‘Two wrongs never make a right. And unfortunately, that child that may have came from that environment had no control over that.’” [Missouri Independent, 7/18/22]
