2019: Perdue Supported Georgia’s Six-Week Abortion Ban, Said Abortion Was “A Moral Issue.” According to WSAV, “The abortion ban in Georgia is triggering a lot of talk in the film industry and from Georgia Senator David Perdue and his challenger former Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson. The film industry brings just short of 100,000 jobs to Georgia, largely because of a 30% tax incentive. At least five production companies have said they will no longer film in the state...and another said they'll be donating profits to the ACLU of Georgia to fight the abortion ban. But on Fox and Friends, Senator David Perdue was dismissive of any concerns. ‘It just shows that the rhetoric is more important than the reality,’ said Sen. Perdue. He said this is what Georgians want. ‘This is not a radical right or liberal left issue here in Georgia. It's a moral issue, and I think the people of Georgia have spoken,’ said Sen. Perdue.” [WSAV, 5/14/19]
2019: Perdue Co-Sponsored 20-Week Abortion Ban Bill. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, “Jordan and four other women testified about the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would ban most abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. The bill, which is co-sponsored by Georgia U.S. Sens. Johnny Isakson and David Perdue and eight of the state's nine House Republicans, closely mirrors a bill Gov. Nathan Deal signed into law in 2012.” [Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 4/9/19]
David Perdue Said He Would Call For A Special Session To “To Eliminate All Abortion In The State Of Georgia.” “If I were Governor when that ruling comes down, I would call the General Assembly back in and ask them to eliminate all abortion in the state of Georgia.” [WSB-ATL (ABC), 5/3/22]
David Perdue On If He Would Ban Abortions: “Oh, Absolutely… I Would Call In The Legislature Under Special Session And Ask Them To Ban Abortions In Georgia.” JOHN FREDRICKS: If Roe v. Wade is indeed overturned, will you, in fact, Senator Purdue, as governor, ban abortions in Georgia? Yes or no? And why? DAVID PERDUE: Oh, absolutely. I mean, that's what I said in the statement right up front, was that if this ruling comes down and when it comes down now, we now have had that confirmed by the chief justice that it will become law. And when that ruling comes down, if I were governor, I would call in the legislature under special session and ask them to ban abortions in Georgia. This is critical. I want the unborn to be safer in Georgia than anywhere else in America. This is a ruling that we've been waiting for 50 years to come down. It's the right thing under God. It's the right thing for the unborn, and it's the right thing right now in Georgia to protect life. [Real America’s Voice: Outside the Beltway, 5/04/22]
David Perdue On Roe V Wade Being Overturned: “This Is An Earth-Shattering Change For America… I’m Very Glad It Finally Happened.” “If I were Governor, I’d call the General Assembly back in for a special session and ask them to eliminate all abortion in Georgia. So, I believe this is an earth-shattering change for America, and I think it reflects the changes in medicine and everything else over the last 50 years, and I’m very glad it finally happened.” [WRDW (CBS), 5/5/22]
David Perdue On Overturning Roe V Wade: “The Law Has Been Wrong For 50 Years. It's About To Be Corrected.” JOHN FREDRICKS:Are you going to be known, when you win, as the Georgia governor for pro-life of all time by banning abortions here once and for all? DAVID PERDUE: Yes, we want Georgia to be the safest place in the country for the unborn. I mean, every life is precious. The law has been wrong for 50 years. It's about to be corrected. And let me remind your viewers that how this happened, Donald Trump should get credit for this. I mean, under his leadership, we nominate confirmed in the United States Senate three justices to the Supreme Court. And that is what is allowed us now to reverse Roe v. Wade. After decades of Republican leadership in the White House and others, we were never able to do this. Now under Donald Trump's leadership we confirmed those three justices and now have this law reversed after 50 years. [Real America’s Voice: Outside the Beltway, 5/04/22]
