Rubio Called Roe V. Wade An "Egregiously Flawed Supreme Court Decision.” According to Bloomberg, “At the National Right to Life Convention on Friday, Florida Senator Marco Rubio touted his opposition to abortion rights, long a prerequisite for being a viable Republican presidential candidate. Speaking to the crowd in New Orleans, he hit all the necessary notes — legal abortion is ‘the taking of innocent life on a massive scale’; Roe v. Wade was an ‘egregiously flawed Supreme Court decision’; the case for abortion rights is ‘indefensible.’” [Bloomberg, 7/10/15]
Rubio Called The Case For Abortion Rights “Indefensible.” According to Bloomberg, “At the National Right to Life Convention on Friday, Florida Senator Marco Rubio touted his opposition to abortion rights, long a prerequisite for being a viable Republican presidential candidate.
[Video] Rubio: “I Don’t Think Roe V. Wade Is Constitutionally Solvent.” From a 2015 conversation, “Host: You think Roe V. Wade should be overturned correct?” Marco Rubio: Just on legal fronts, I don’t think Roe V. Wade Is constitutionally solvent. Host: And ergo should be overturned? Rubio: Yes.” [Yahoo Screen, 1/12/15]
Rubio Advocated To Overturn Roe V. Wade Saying, “Unborn Children Have The Right To Live.” According to the Weekly Standard, “Crist’s vulnerabilities with conservatives go beyond fiscal issues. In March, he appointed a liberal judge to the state supreme court. Last year, Crist told National Review that he’s ‘pro-life’ but doesn’t think Roe v. Wade should be overturned, and he couldn’t name a single restriction on abortion he would call for in Florida. Rubio thinks Roe should be overturned on constitutional and moral grounds; he says simply: ‘Unborn children have the right to live.'” [Weekly Standard, 5/18/09]
2005: Rubio: “Roe V. Wade Is A Constitutional Stretch,” “Legally Flawed.” During an interview with Florida Bar News, Rubio was asked, “The Christian Family Coalition gave you a 100 percent approval rating for your pro-life and pro-family philosophies. Is that something you are proud of?” Rubio answered, “I am, on two grounds. Again, I don’t know what the legislative role is in this, because it’s been decided at the federal level. But from a legal perspective, I think that Roe v. Wade is a constitutional stretch. I understand why it was done politically. It’s a very divisive issue. I’ve never changed anyone’s mind on it. And I can’t imagine anyone changing my mind on how I feel about abortion. But I think it is legally flawed. I don’t think there is an existing constitutional protection. Now, if someone wants to amend the constitution to create one, I think that is valid. If they want to do that, I disagree, but I think that is valid. If they statutorily want to create that, that is free, as well. I don’t believe the privacy clause of the constitution, however, could be expanded to include abortion. So I have problems with it constitutionally. And I have personal views about abortion.” [Florida Bar News, 4/1/05, Pg. 1 (2) Vol. 32 No. 7]
CNN: “Rubio Says He Opposes Abortion In All Instances.” According to CNN, “Florida Sen. Marco Rubio says he opposes abortion in all instances – but he’d support legislation that includes exceptions in cases such as rape, incest and when the life of the mother is threatened, and he has no problem with contraception. The Republican presidential contender was asked Sunday on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ about his comment in Thursday night’s debate that ‘all human life is worthy of protection, irrespective of the circumstances in which that human life was created.’ Rubio said Sunday that he will support ‘any legislation that reduces the number of abortions.’” [CNN, 8/9/15]
